The 2026\/27 season brings a significant increase in the economic resources invested by the 16 Lega Basket Serie A clubs, with total costs up 65% compared to the 2018\/19 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Total spending rises to nearly \u20ac185 million<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Marco Iaria\u2019s analysis for Sportweek<\/em>, the combined costs of the 16 Serie A clubs have reached almost \u20ac185 million<\/strong>, compared with more than \u20ac110 million in 2018\/19, the final season before the COVID-19 emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over eight years, spending has therefore increased by approximately 65%<\/strong>, reflecting both the growth in revenues and the greater willingness of club owners to invest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The figures refer to the overall costs incurred by the clubs during the season<\/strong>, rather than simply player salary budgets. The data also come just days after a report by the independent commission responsible for monitoring the economic and financial balance of professional sports clubs, which found that 14 of the 16 teams are operating at a loss<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olimpia Milano leads the rankings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the top of the spending table is Olimpia Milano<\/strong>, with total costs estimated at close to \u20ac40 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Gazzetta dello Sport<\/em>, around half of that amount is covered by the EA7 sponsorship<\/strong>. Since 2008, Giorgio Armani is estimated to have provided the club with more than \u20ac250 million through capital contributions and commercial agreements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the designer\u2019s death, president Leo Dell\u2019Orco opted to maintain a budget substantially in line with the previous season, which ended with Olimpia winning the Supercoppa Italiana, Coppa Italia and Serie A championship<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virtus Bologna second, Tortona third<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virtus Bologna<\/strong> occupies second place, although its budget has gradually decreased in recent seasons. The club went from \u20ac32 million in 2024\/25 to \u20ac28 million in 2025\/26, with approximately \u20ac25 million<\/strong> projected for the current campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behind the two EuroLeague clubs sits Tortona<\/strong>, whose budget has risen to \u20ac14.5 million<\/strong>, also helped by increased revenues following the opening of its new arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BC Roma and Maxima bring Rome back into the picture<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

BC Roma<\/strong> follows with a budget of around \u20ac12 million<\/strong>, while Reyer Venezia<\/strong> is at approximately \u20ac11 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maxima Roma, Napoli and Varese<\/strong> are all around the \u20ac10 million mark. Reggio Emilia is estimated at \u20ac9 million, while Cant\u00f9 and Trento are both at \u20ac7 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The return of Rome is one of the most notable developments, with two ambitious projects now competing in the capital. BC Roma acquired the sporting rights from Cremona, while Maxima Roma<\/strong> is chaired by Paul Matiasic, with Francesco Totti serving as an advisor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
