Momentum is building toward the NBA expanding to 32 teams for the 2028-29 season. According to Shams Charania, Las Vegas and Seattle are the expected destinations for the two expansion franchises. Bids for Las Vegas could exceed $10 billion, while Seattle’s franchise could be valued at around $7 billion. An expansion draft would take place in summer 2028.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are increasingly viewed as the most likely team to move to the Eastern Conference. Geography makes Minnesota the logical choice, while the league could also benefit from balancing the conferences around star power, with Anthony Edwards becoming a major draw in the East.
