Cole Anthony wants to rediscover his joy for basketball<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Cole Anthony has been in Australia for less than a month, but the former NBA first-round pick has already settled into his new surroundings.<\/p>\n

After struggling to find the same enjoyment on the court over the past couple of years, Anthony chose the NBL<\/strong><\/a> as the next chapter of his career, turning down significant opportunities in Europe.<\/p>\n

\u201cI struggled the last couple of years to find that joy for the game<\/strong>, but shoot, it’s hard to not get out here and enjoy what I’m seeing when I’m around,\u201d Anthony said during the broadcast at the 2026 CODE Sports NBL Blitz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Melbourne United<\/strong> guard missed both of the team’s games in Bendigo due to injury, but is expected to be ready for the regular-season opener.<\/p>\n

Anthony set to face Bryce Cotton<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Anthony’s NBL debut will come with an intriguing matchup. Melbourne United will face Bryce Cotton<\/strong> on September 19 in one of the most exciting individual battles of the opening round.<\/p>\n

Anthony knows exactly what awaits him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean he’s a six-time MVP, that kind of speaks for itself<\/strong>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe’s another dude who could definitely be playing in the NBA.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

Cotton, however, has established himself in Australia and has remained in the NBL for years.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut he’s come out here, and he’s found a home, and he hasn’t left. I’m out here now, I’m seeing why he hasn’t left.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s a really strong League\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Anthony has also been impressed by both the lifestyle in Australia and the level of competition in the NBL.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s a real good style of living; it’s a really strong League.<\/strong> Dudes are out here battling every time\u2026 It’s still pre-season, and I see how hard teams are going, so it’s a good level.\u201d<\/p>\n

His arrival at Melbourne United is one of the biggest signings in NBL history, with the 26-year-old choosing Australia despite significant European opportunities.<\/p>\n

The move also allows him to reunite with former Orlando Magic teammate Joe Ingles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Work ethic remains the key<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Anthony also reflected on the global growth of basketball and the increasing level of talent around the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think basketball as a whole\u2026 all over the world\u2026 everyone’s just becoming more talented than they were 10 to 15 years ago<\/strong>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

For Anthony, the answer remains simple: keep working.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, I just try to stay ready. I always try to get as much work on the court as I can<\/strong>; that’s kind of always what I’ve prided myself on is my work ethic.\u201d<\/p>\n

Melbourne United ready for September 19 opener<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Anthony’s first official NBL game is scheduled for Saturday, September 19<\/strong>, when Melbourne United takes on the 36ers at 7:30pm AEST at John Cain Arena<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
