La Laguna Tenerife will play another pre-season game this Saturday, the first of two trips to mainland Spain scheduled during their summer preparations. The second will come at the end of next week as part of the XV Torneo Costa del Sol. After opening their friendly schedule on Thursday with an impressive 96-84 win over Gran Canaria, Jaka Lakovic’s team will visit Casademont Zaragoza this afternoon for a more demanding test.

The Tenerife side will face the Aragonese team in Utebo, twelve kilometres from the regional capital Zaragoza and on the banks of the Ebro, with the aim of continuing to strengthen their playing concepts, build up their rhythm and develop the chemistry of an exciting new project featuring six new faces on the roster.

The game, scheduled for 5:30 PM local time in the Canary Islands, will be streamed live on the official TV Canaria website, following the agreement recently reached with the regional broadcaster.

The Tenerife delegation travelled to central Aragon yesterday, flying via Madrid before taking the high-speed AVE train to Zaragoza. The squad includes all 14 available players, with the only absentee being Rokas Giedraitis, who remains sidelined with his long-term injury.

Standing in their way will be a revamped Casademont Zaragoza, who have just completed their usual training camp in Benasque and defeated Ilerna Lleida 106-102 in Binéfar in their first friendly of the summer.

The Aragonese side have retained Canadian point guard Trae Bell-Haynes, as well as Spaniards Miguel González and Jaime Fernández, from the team that secured survival on the final day of last season. They have also added British big man Gabriel Olesani in recent days and strengthened the roster with several high-level additions.

Among them are the returns of former Tenerife player Nico Brussino and Balearic point guard Sergi García, while veteran playmaker Guillem Vives, left-handed wing Caleb Homesley, formerly of Gran Canaria, and Justin Jaworski, formerly of Surne Bilbao Basket, have also joined the team. Jaworski scored an impressive 38 points in Zaragoza’s previous friendly. Latvian power forward Robert Blumbergs and big men Laurynas Birutis and Jilson Bango complete the additions, although Bango is still recovering from a serious injury.

The team will be coached by Gonzalo García, the former Tenerife coach who masterminded Zaragoza’s dramatic survival campaign last season. Another former Tenerife player, Rodrigo San Miguel, is part of his coaching staff as an assistant, while Pedro Llompart, also a former player for the island club, serves as the team’s sporting director.

The Aragonese side have also included Anthony Rodríguez, the Cuban big man from their U22 team, in the squad for this afternoon’s game.
