{"id":513081,"date":"2026-09-02T07:27:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T05:27:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportando.basketball\/?p=513081"},"modified":"2026-09-02T07:27:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T05:27:07","slug":"fiba-aligns-with-ioc-decisions-lifts-restrictions-on-russian-and-belarusian-individuals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportando.basketball\/en\/fiba-aligns-with-ioc-decisions-lifts-restrictions-on-russian-and-belarusian-individuals\/","title":{"rendered":"FIBA aligns with IOC decisions, lifts restrictions on Russian and Belarusian individuals"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 data-section-id=\"51mqkf\" data-start=\"311\" data-end=\"357\">Immediate return for players and officials<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"359\" data-end=\"659\">Following the recent decisions by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to lift its recommended restrictions on Belarusian athletes and teams and to provisionally lift the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee, the FIBA Executive Committee has confirmed its alignment with the IOC position.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"661\" data-end=\"868\">FIBA has decided to <strong data-start=\"681\" data-end=\"756\">lift restrictions on all Russian and Belarusian individual participants<\/strong>, including players, coaches, referees, commissioners and other officials in both basketball and 3&#215;3 basketball.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"870\" data-end=\"1057\">Russian and Belarusian players can therefore participate in <strong data-start=\"930\" data-end=\"977\">all FIBA competitions with immediate effect<\/strong>, while officials from the two countries can be nominated for FIBA competitions.<\/p>\n<h3 data-section-id=\"ays551\" data-start=\"1059\" data-end=\"1105\">National teams to be addressed in December<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1107\" data-end=\"1200\">The situation regarding <strong data-start=\"1131\" data-end=\"1172\">Russian and Belarusian national teams<\/strong> will be handled separately.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1532\">FIBA will work closely with the IOC, ASOIF and other Olympic team sports federations to address the logistical and player safety issues surrounding their potential reintegration on the <strong data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1403\">Road to LA28<\/strong>, as well as in international national team and club competitions across all age categories and in both FIBA Olympic disciplines.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1534\" data-end=\"1743\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Concrete decisions regarding the participation of national teams, including the implementation of an <strong data-start=\"1635\" data-end=\"1667\">adequate anti-doping program<\/strong>, will be taken at the next <strong data-start=\"1695\" data-end=\"1742\">FIBA Central Board meeting in December 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The federation will allow Russian and Belarusian players and officials to participate in all FIBA competitions with immediate effect.
