Amar’e Stoudemire is officially a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. The former Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks star, a six-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA selection, reflected during the ceremony on some of the most important moments of his career.

Among them was undoubtedly the Knicks’ return to the playoffs in 2011, after a seven-year drought. Stoudemire recalled how difficult it was at the time to convince top players to choose New York.

“Before I got there, no one else wanted to go to New York. So that’s why I was like, ‘The Knicks are back, and we’re gonna do this.’ And so it was good to see those guys winning that championship this year,” Stoudemire said.

The former big man was one of the key players on Mike D’Antoni’s “Seven Seconds or Less” Phoenix Suns before becoming the face of the Knicks’ resurgence and leading New York back to the playoffs in 2011.

During his speech, however, Stoudemire also focused heavily on his personal journey, reflecting on the economic hardships he faced growing up in Florida and emphasizing the importance of perseverance.

“The most important aspect that I can give, that I experienced — when you’re growing up in an environment when it’s not easy to make it out of, the most important factor for me was, first of all, stay out of trouble … stay positive, stay focused, stay meaningful, and always keep in mind that perseverance, no matter what one goes through, one can persevere through anything,” Stoudemire said.

Jerry Colangelo, Mike D’Antoni, Grant Hill, Tracy McGrady, Steve Nash and Rick Welts served as Stoudemire’s presenters during the ceremony.
