Several changes to the basketball rulebook will come into effect for the 2026-27 season<\/strong>, beginning with preseason games.<\/p>\n

FIBA 2026: THE FOUL RULES ARE CHANGING!<\/strong> \ud83d\udea8<\/div>\n
Starting October 1, 2026, FIBA is completely reshaping how technical and unsportsmanlike actions are penalized to reward continuous play and stop foul baiting.<\/div>\n
Here is what you need to know:<\/div>\n
\ud83d\uded1 Technical Fouls Split in Two<\/strong><\/div>\n
    \n
  • Category 1 (Behavioral):<\/strong> Taunting or disrespect. These count toward game disqualification.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Category 2 (Administrative):<\/strong> Minor delays (like touching the ball after a score). These do NOT count toward ejection.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
    \u274c Goodbye “Unsportsmanlike” Fouls<\/strong>
    The old category is gone, replaced by:<\/div>\n

    • Disruptive Fouls:<\/strong> Tactical stops (e.g., stopping a fast break). Treated as normal team fouls.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Flagrant Fouls:<\/strong> Dangerous physical contact. Counts directly toward ejection.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      A player is disqualified immediately upon reaching:<\/div>\n

      • 2 Category 1 Technicals<\/span><\/li>\n
      • 2 Flagrant Fouls<\/span><\/li>\n
      • 1 Category 1 Technical + 1 Flagrant Foul<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
