Gianmaria Vacirca was a guest yesterday on Area 52. The current general manager of Derthona Basket and former general manager of Olimpia Milano shared some important insights about Tyler Dorsey and Nikola Milutinov.

“There’s this whole Dorsey situation, which is quite unique. It’s been a while now, so I might as well say it: Dorsey was supposed to come to Milan last year. We called him, and he was going to come. He considered his experience there over and done with. There were issues—everyone knows that—and he wasn’t playing. But in the end, there was no way to get him to leave because of his passport and the rules of the Greek league. So Dorsey stayed there due to this issue with his passport and the Greek league. And this year, Dorsey made the comeback of the year. From a relational standpoint, a peculiar situation also emerged. We tried; the player was willing, he was available, but the club wasn’t on board.”

“But Alberto, I’m not revealing anything extraordinary here, and I don’t think anyone will take offense: Milutinov’s contract was already—I mean—a done deal with Milan. The problem is that Fall got injured, and the moment Fall got hurt, Milutinov was locked down at the office. I mean, with his agent waiting outside, he was locked down at the office and walked out with a renewal, precisely because Fall had gotten injured. So that’s how it went. And this year, he was the best center in the EuroLeague according to many—according to many of you.”
