The franchise is now set to begin its third head coaching search in three years, while discussions are ongoing about a possible advisory role for Rivers within the organization.

The move comes after a disappointing season in which Milwaukee missed both the playoffs and the play-in tournament. Rivers posted a 97-103 overall record with the Bucks and had to deal with major injury issues involving his top stars, with Giannis Antetokounmpo limited to 36 games in 2025-26 and Damian Lillard also missing time in previous playoff runs.

Since winning the 2021 NBA title under Mike Budenholzer, the Bucks have not won a playoff series since 2022. Rivers, a 2026 Hall of Fame inductee and the coach of the 2008 champion Boston Celtics, now closes a difficult chapter in Milwaukee, one also marked by a season-long disconnect with the locker room.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[92

175
183

post-492581","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nba","rumors-nba-rumors","typology-rumors
["GET
