Coach Pedro Martinez spoke at a press conference ahead of the EuroLeague matchup against Olimpia Milano. Below are his comments on returning to play in Israel against the two Israeli teams participating in the competition.<\/p>\n

Regarding EuroLeague\u2019s decision to resume games in Israel:<\/strong>
It seems that you\u2019re the only Spanish team scheduled to play both games in Israel. What do you think?<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, first of all, as a sportsman, I\u2019d say we always hope for normality in competitions. We like that Hapoel and Maccabi can play at home, and that when we face them, it\u2019s not behind closed doors as has recently happened. That\u2019s what we\u2019d like to see.<\/p>\n

Now, stepping outside the sporting context, there are many more nuances. To be honest, we\u2019re not very calm about it. When we see the news, it doesn\u2019t seem like the situation is as normalized as we\u2019d wish. So my question is: why was it unsafe to play in Israel on November 25, but it should be safe on December 5\u2014just ten days later?<\/p>\n

Those who made the decision\u2014by the way, without having to travel\u2014are the executives. We, on the other hand, do have to travel. We\u2019d like them to explain why they think November 25 wasn\u2019t safe but December 5 is. That would reassure us a lot. Until we get that explanation, we can\u2019t say we feel at ease.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2004, Valencia Basket refused to play. Is that something you\u2019re considering as well?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cLook, I\u2019m just the coach, so that\u2019s not a question for me. As I said, I\u2019m in favor of normality. This is sports. We don\u2019t want to be part of the problem; we\u2019d simply like every team to play its home and away games regularly. But if you ask me, as Valencia Basket\u2019s coach and not as someone who has all the information, I have to say we\u2019re not calm. Obviously, we\u2019ll be given security guarantees\u2014of course\u2014and we\u2019ll try to handle the situation as normally as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
