The Boston Celtics have made two moves to bolster their frontcourt with size and experience.<\/p>\n
The team traded Georges Niang and two future second-round picks to the Utah Jazz in exchange for rookie RJ Luis Jr.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the Celtics signed veteran big man Chris Boucher to a fully guaranteed one-year deal worth $3.3 million.<\/p>\n
According to Shams Charania<\/a>, the former Raptors forward is expected to play a meaningful role in Boston\u2019s frontcourt rotation. Boucher, who became a free agent after seven seasons in Canada, averaged 10 points and 4.5 rebounds in 17 minutes per game last season.<\/p>\n RJ Luis Jr., a 22-year-old guard\/forward out of St. John’s, had recently signed a Two-Way Contract with the Jazz.<\/p>\n With the Niang trade, the Celtics also significantly reduced their projected luxury tax bill\u2014by over $42 million. Back on June 15, even before the NBA Draft, projections had Boston\u2019s total spending (salaries + tax) approaching $540 million.
