The Minnesota Timberwolves had every reason to smile after Joan Beringer’s impressive debut at the Las Vegas Summer League, helping the team to a win over the New Orleans Pelicans.<\/p>\n
The 18-year-old French center, selected 17th overall in the recent NBA Draft, posted an eye-catching stat line with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 7 blocks \u2014 tying the Summer League record for most blocks in a game.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t even have to explain, y\u2019all see it,\u201d said teammate Rob Dillingham<\/a>. \u201cHe was like that since the first day. He plays hard, run the floor, take coaching well and he plays with everybody. \u2026 He\u2019s gonna be special.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
While Summer League performances don\u2019t always translate into regular-season success, Beringer\u2019s quickness and athleticism make him a perfect fit for the modern NBA, where centers are often required to defend away from the basket.<\/p>\n
Even more impressive is Beringer\u2019s relatively short basketball journey \u2014 he only started playing seriously in 2021. Now, he\u2019ll have the chance to learn the ropes alongside fellow Frenchman Rudy Gobert.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m always thinking about how I can impact the game. My defense I think is the biggest thing,\u201d Beringer said, visibly thrilled after learning he had already tied a Summer League record in his very first outing with Minnesota.<\/p>\n
