We didn’t want to go out like that.’

With a joint speech between Brown, Al Horford and coach Joe Mazzulla, the team shifted gears. ‘We said to each other: let’s go out and defend as much as we can. Just that.’

‘We lost an offensive motor, so the strategy was clear: defensive intensity,’ added Brown, author of 26 points, 12 assists and eight rebounds.

Luke Kornet was also an unexpected protagonist: 10 points, nine rebounds and seven wicks. ‘I just felt like giving energy.
