NBA Commissioner Adam Silver<\/strong> addressed the status of ownership changes involving the Minnesota Timberwolves<\/strong> and Boston Celtics<\/strong>, two significant transactions still under review by the league.<\/p>\n

Timberwolves<\/h3>\n

Prospective owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez<\/strong> recently won an arbitration ruling against current owner Glen Taylor<\/strong>, giving them a 90-day window to complete their purchase of a majority stake.
Silver confirmed that Taylor may appeal, and for now, league approval is on hold<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Celtics<\/h3>\n

The Celtics’ current ownership group, Boston Basketball Partners<\/strong>, announced the sale of the team to a consortium led by Bill Chisholm<\/strong>, valuing the franchise at $6.1 billion<\/strong>, potentially rising above $7 billion<\/strong> in a second-stage transaction.<\/p>\n

Wyc Grousbeck<\/strong> would remain team governor through the 2027\u201328 season<\/strong>, complicating the transition.
Silver said the deal is still in early stages of review<\/strong> and highlighted concerns over the role of private equity firm Sixth Street<\/strong>, which is set to invest over $1 billion<\/strong>.
NBA rules require that the controlling owner must:<\/p>\n

    Hold at least 15%<\/strong> of the franchise<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Own a larger stake than any private equity firm<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Silver confirmed there are no current plans to change those ownership rules.<\/p>\n

    The NBA\u2019s board of governors must approve both deals. For now, the league is carefully evaluating the financial structures and stakeholder arrangements.<\/p>\n
