A bittersweet victory for France<\/strong>, who secured their EuroBasket 2025<\/strong> qualification by defeating Croatia<\/strong> in Zadar (83-80), but had to endure a disgraceful evening. Several French players, including Yoan Makoundou<\/strong> and Amine Noua<\/strong>, were subjected to racist insults and monkey chants<\/strong> from the crowd. This unacceptable incident has prompted the FFBB (F\u00e9d\u00e9ration Fran\u00e7aise de Basketball)<\/strong> to take a firm stance, issuing a strong statement and contacting FIBA<\/strong> to demand action.<\/p>\n

A Hostile and Unacceptable Atmosphere<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The game, played in the small and fiery Jazine Arena<\/strong> in Zadar (3,500 seats<\/strong>), was expected to be intense, but the situation quickly spiraled out of control. According to L\u2019\u00c9quipe<\/em>, Makoundou was repeatedly insulted with “Fuck you Makoundou”<\/strong>, while Noua was targeted with audible monkey chants<\/strong>. When Makoundou attempted to report the abuse to the referees, the situation escalated further, with more jeers from the stands.<\/p>\n

Th\u00e9o Maledon<\/strong> addressed the incident after the game, saying:
“I heard the insults, but not the chants. In these moments, we just talk more among ourselves. The truth is on the court, through our actions.”<\/em><\/p>\n

France Demands Action, FIBA Under Pressure<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Following the game, the FFBB<\/strong> issued a public statement condemning the abuse:
“Such behavior is unacceptable. We stand with our players and will call on FIBA to take immediate action.”<\/em><\/p>\n

FIBA now faces pressure to respond decisively. European basketball has had to deal with racist incidents in the past, and this latest disgrace cannot be ignored.<\/p>\n

A Bitter Exit for Croatia<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ironically, Croatia \u2013 eliminated by France \u2013 will not participate in EuroBasket 2025<\/strong> for the first time in its history.
