In the current season of the FIBA Europe Cup, Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari competed against Anwil Wloclawek. Winning two times in the phase stage, Sassari proved their ambition of fighting for the main trophy. That could be a great story for the Italian team, that had already won the FIBA Europe Cup competition back in the 2018/2019. What’s funny in this story – Anwil Wloclawek achieved the same goal four years later – 2022/2023.

Last Wednesday, Sassari – with Polish forward and former Anwil Wloclawek player Michal Sokołowski on the team – had a chance to visit Włocławek, which is located in the heart of Poland. The game, won by Italian team 86;83 after thrilling ending, was observed by more than three thousand spontaneous and irrepressible fans who were trying to help their team. Hala Mistrzów court is well-known object on the Polish basketball map and everyone knows it’s hard to get a win there. This enhances the Sassari’s victory.

It is about the club, and what about the city? Is Włocławek worth visiting?

Włocławek is a city situated in the south-eastern part of Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, on the River Vistula. Well-known as the “capital of Kuyavia” region, it seems to be one of the oldest towns in Poland.

Apart of a great basketball team that was the three-times Polish champion, Włocławek has more to offer. The Cathedral Basilica (dating from the 14th and 15th centuries), the monastery of the Order of the Reformati in Wolności Square, the Bishop’s Palace and the dame on the Vistula river are the most important attractions.

But Włocławek is not only the place strictly bound with its historical-religious background. It’s also a great place for those who love to be close to nature. Tourists are charmed by the greenery of the historical Henryk Sienkiewicz Municipal Park and beautiful flower beds, and also by the beautiful Włocławek Reservoir, which is an attractive place for playing water sports, fishing, hiking, biking, mushroom hunting, horseback riding, and other outdoor activities.
