According to Pelicans head coach Willie Green, Hawkins is in contention for a starting spot. \u201c<em>Absolutely<\/em>,\u201d was Green&#8217;s response when asked if the guard, in his second year in the NBA, was a rotation player.<\/p>\n<p>Hawkins had an up-and-down rookie season. He averaged 7.8 points in 67 games, but shot only 38.2 percent from the field. Hawkins has mostly been a three-point specialist, as more than 65 percent of his shots have come from behind the arc.<\/p>\n<p>This preseason, the 6-foot-2 guard has shown a wider game. Hawkins averaged 16.3 points on 50 percent shooting, on a wide variety of attempts.
