The second edition of the FIBA 3×3 U17 Europe Cup will take place in Athens, Greece, FIBA and the Hellenic Basketball Federation announced on December 27, 2021.<\/p>\n

“It is a very good development for the growth of 3×3 that an important 3×3 event is back in Athens after 10 years,” FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said.<\/p>\n

The FIBA 3×3 U17 Europe Cup 2022 will be played on September 2-4, nearly ten years to the day after Athens hosted the first-ever FIBA 3×3 World Cup, which was also the first 3×3 senior national team competition organized by FIBA.<\/p>\n

“I am delighted to see Greece invest in 3×3 again, especially in a competition that brings together a generation of future stars and Olympians.”<\/p>\n

After 3×3\u2019s success story at Tokyo 2020, the Hellenic Basketball Federation and its President Vaggelis Liolios decided to bring back the new Olympic discipline to the birthplace of the Olympic Games:<\/p>\n

“The rapid spread of 3×3 worldwide inspired the Hellenic Basketball Federation to immediately promote and strengthen the sport within the national context,” Liolios said.<\/p>\n

“In this framework, we clearly integrated the 3×3 development in our agenda as a top priority for the coming years. The successful organization of such major international events in the past is a guarantee for one more wonderful FIBA event in our country.<\/p>\n

“Organizing the FIBA 3×3 U17 Europe Cup is a major challenge, responsibility, but also a pleasure, and an honour for the Hellenic Basketball Federation. We are looking forward to this unique event which is the beginning of many similar future collaborations with FIBA.”<\/p>\n

The FIBA 3×3 U17 Europe Cup is a yearly competition, and the second edition will be organized in Athens at a location to be confirmed. Spain\u2019s women and Slovenia\u2019s men are the defending champions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Exciting, urban and innovative, 3×3 is inspired by several forms of streetball played worldwide and is considered the world\u2019s number one urban team sport. Steered by FIBA, games see two teams of three players face off on a basketball half-court.<\/p>\n

It was played successfully for the first time in international competition at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and since then has benefited from the launch of a yearly city-based FIBA 3×3 World Tour and national-team FIBA 3×3 World & Continental Cups.<\/p>\n

On July 24, 2021, 3×3 made its Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games.<\/p>\n

The FIBA 3×3 U17 Europe Cup 2022 is played on an Enlio floor with Wilson balls, a Schelde backstop, Bodet shotclock and the Magic Sky canopy system. Peak is the event apparel partner.<\/p>\n
