{"id":217972,"date":"2021-05-31T15:20:47","date_gmt":"2021-05-31T13:20:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportando.basketball\/?p=217972"},"modified":"2021-05-31T15:20:47","modified_gmt":"2021-05-31T13:20:47","slug":"lebron-unapologetic-about-the-decision-believes-it-helped-athletes-take-control-of-their-careers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportando.basketball\/en\/lebron-unapologetic-about-the-decision-believes-it-helped-athletes-take-control-of-their-careers\/","title":{"rendered":"LeBron unapologetic about &#8220;The Decision&#8221;, believes it helped athletes take control of their careers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After more than 10 years, LeBron James has no regrets for \u201cThe Decision\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/basketball.realgm.com\/wiretap\/262770\/LeBron-James-Im-Happy-I-Fell-On-The-Sword-With-The-Decision-For-The-Rest-Of-These-Athletes\">Per RealGM,<\/a> LeBron James is unapologetic about &#8220;The Decision&#8221; and he believes it helped other athletes take control of their careers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are always going to have people that are not going to agree with something that you do, but at the end of the day they can\u2019t stop you, and can\u2019t stop your path, and can\u2019t stop your journey,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2021\/06\/07\/lebron-james-agent-is-transforming-the-business-of-basketball\">James told Isaac Chotiner of The New Yorker<\/a>. &#8220;I am happy that I was able to fall on the sword for the rest of these athletes, men and women, to be able to feel empowered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Afpgnb_9bA4\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Rich Paul saw a lot of the response to James leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat in 2010 as racist, calling out Bill Simmons for his comments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI blame the people around him. I blame the lack of a father figure in his life,\u201d Simmons, then a leading columnist at ESPN, wrote. \u201cI blame us for feeding his narcissism to the point that he referred to himself in the third person five times in forty-five minutes. I blame local and national writers (including myself) for apparently not doing a good enough job explaining to athletes like LeBron what sports mean to us, and how it IS a marriage, for better and worse, and that we\u2019re much more attached to these players and teams than they realize.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why I don\u2019t speak to Bill Simmons,\u201d Paul said. \u201cA lot of that has to do with race, too. He wouldn\u2019t have said that about Larry Bird. He wouldn\u2019t have said that about J. J. Redick. You get what I am saying? \u2018The Decision\u2019 ten years ago is the norm today. It\u2019s what everyone wants to do.
