{"id":166237,"date":"2020-08-13T14:12:22","date_gmt":"2020-08-13T12:12:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportando.basketball\/?p=166237"},"modified":"2020-08-13T14:12:22","modified_gmt":"2020-08-13T12:12:22","slug":"london-lions-sign-josh-ward-hibbert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportando.basketball\/en\/london-lions-sign-josh-ward-hibbert\/","title":{"rendered":"London Lions sign Josh Ward-Hibbert"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The London Lions have snapped one of GB\u2019s fastest rising stars as former\u00a0<strong>Australian Open Champion<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>BBL Champion, Josh Ward-Hibbert<\/strong>\u00a0is the latest addition to a squad being built to have impact on the European stage.<\/p>\n<p>Off the basketball court Ward-Hibbert had already made his mark as one of the best junior tennis players in the world, capturing the title in\u00a0<strong>Australia Junior Doubles<\/strong>\u00a0title in 2012. However, after representing England in the European Basketball Championships, the basketball bug led to spells at Derby Trailblazers and Leicester Riders.<\/p>\n<p>The 6\u20195\u201d forward also captured three\u00a0<strong>BUCS University Championships<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0<strong>Loughborough University<\/strong>, he will now study at the\u00a0<strong>University of East London<\/strong>\u00a0, The Lion\u2019s official University partner, who\u2019s range of courses have answered his need as well as play with the London Lions in the Basketball Champions League. Last season he put up impressive numbers, averaging\u00a0<strong>12 points<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>6 rebounds<\/strong>\u00a0whist hitting 51% from the floor and 41% from the three-point line.<\/p>\n<p>Lions Head Coach,\u00a0<strong>Vince Macaulay<\/strong>\u00a0said capturing the young star was a no brainer, \u201cOnce we were approached and told he was on the market, we expressed an interest and made an offer that I\u2019m pleased to say he accepted. He brings a lot of energy, he was his team\u2019s leading rebounder last season and his game is tailor made for our up tempo style. He strikes me as very focussed and I think his prior life in tennis has given him an ability to perform when it matters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ward Hibbert<\/strong>\u00a0was happy to be settling in the capital, \u201cI am really happy to be here right now, we have had a great few days starting back with the team. Enjoying my time here with the guys and all the staff, all have been welcoming. There are a few of us new to the team and feel like we are all synching in and gelling together really well.
