{"id":137760,"date":"2020-03-04T09:00:50","date_gmt":"2020-03-04T08:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportando.basketball\/?p=137760"},"modified":"2020-03-04T09:00:50","modified_gmt":"2020-03-04T08:00:50","slug":"basketball-africa-league-postpones-start-of-inaugural-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportando.basketball\/en\/basketball-africa-league-postpones-start-of-inaugural-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Basketball Africa League Postpones Start of Inaugural Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Basketball Africa League (BAL) (<a title=\"https:\/\/www.theBAL.com\/\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thebal.com\/\" data-toggle=\"tooltip\">https:\/\/www.theBAL.com\/<\/a>) today postponed the league\u2019s inaugural season, which had been scheduled to tip off Friday, March 13 in Dakar, Senegal.\u00a0The following statement has been issued by BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing the recommendation of the Senegalese government regarding the escalating health concerns related to the coronavirus, the BAL\u2019s inaugural season will be postponed.\u00a0I am disappointed we are not able to tip off this historic league as scheduled but look forward to the highly-anticipated launch of the BAL at a later date.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The BAL, a partnership between the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the NBA, is a new professional league featuring 12 club teams from across Africa. The BAL builds on the foundation of club competitions FIBA has organized in Africa and marks the NBA\u2019s first collaboration to operate a league outside North America.
