Dick Pound, IOC\u2019s longest serving member, has said in an interview with the Associated Press, that Tokyo Olympic organizers have until late May to see if the coronavirus situation is under control.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs far as we all know, you\u2019re going to be in Tokyo,\u201d Pound said. \u201cAll indications are at this stage that it will be business as usual. So keep focused on your sport and be sure that the IOC is not going to send you into a pandemic situation\u201d. Pound has later added that a situation with the virus not under control could lead to a cancellation.<\/p>\n
The modern Olympics, which date to 1896, have been canceled only during wartime. The Olympics in 1940 were supposed to be in Tokyo but were called off because of Japan\u2019s war with China and World War II.
