Valencia Basket has reached an agreement to strengthen its frontcourt with the signing of Ghanaian center Amida Brimah (2.13m, Accra, 11/02/1994, 30 years old) until the end of the 2024-25 season. The player joins from Baxi Manresa, the team with which he recently completed a two-month temporary contract signed in September. With the Bages-based team, he had his first experience in the Liga Endesa, playing the first eight games of the season, averaging 3.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks for a 6.1 index. Additionally, with the Catalan team, he returned to play in the Basketball Champions League and is familiar with the BKT EuroCup, having participated in it with JL Bourg-en-Bresse in 2022.
Brimah’s professional career highlights include a brief stint in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers, an NCAA championship with the Connecticut Huskies in his freshman year, and a G-League title with the Austin Spurs in 2018. In his first games in Spain, he has shown his ability to impact the game as a defensive specialist. The new Valencia Basket player ranks as the second-best shot-blocker in the Liga Endesa (1.5 blocks per game), despite averaging just over 12 minutes on the court per game. Advanced statistics show that he blocks 12.9% of the shots taken in his presence, the highest rate in the entire ACB. His defensive efficiency is similarly impressive: Baxi Manresa has allowed only 95.2 points per 100 possessions in national competition while he has been on the court. No player in the Liga Endesa who has played every game this season has had a better defensive impact.
