US sports leagues didn’t buy pandemic insurance, found scenario “Unthinkable”

The crisis could erase more than $3.25 billion in missed revenues.

While Wimbledon and the Olympics have been covered by insurance policies for possible cancelation due to a pandemic, the major U.S. sports leagues are not covered. Those decisions were made also because the loss of entire seasons was regarded as unthinkable, industry sources told ESPN.

The current crisis could erase more than $3.25 billion in missed revenues, money that fans would have spent on pro sports. Any figure could more than double if college football and the NFL are wiped out.
