Two MVPs in Round 12
Two strong performances in winning efforts allowed Dwyane Bacon of Panathinaikos Athens and Pierria Henry of Cazoo Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz to share co-MVP of the Round honors in Round 12 of the 2022-23 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season.
Bacon had a career night in his second EuroLeague season, helping Panathinaikos rally to a 90-77 overtime win over the visiting EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. This is the first time he has earned first MVP of the Round honors. Bacon led all players in Round 12 with a career-high 31 points, making 9-of-12 two-pointers and going 2-of-8 from beyond the arc. He also pulled down 7 rebounds and had 1 steal and 1 block. He is the first Panathinaikos player to be MVP of the Round since April of 2021. Henry led Baskonia to a 78-53 home victory against FC Bayern Munich. He finished with 14 points on 7-of-10 two-pointers, while he also recorded 3 rebounds, 10 assists, 3 steals and 5 fouls drawn. Henry is the MVP of the Round for the second time in his career, as he previously achieved this feat in Round 1 of the 2020-21 season. Walter Tavares of Real Madrid also had a PIR of 28 after an overtime game, albeit in a 94-95 losing effort against AS Monaco. Tavares finished the game with 17 points and a club-record 18 rebounds, along with 3 blocks. The next-best PIR, 27, belongs to Monaco’s Mike James, who posted 28 points on 4-for-7 three-point shooting, as well as 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 13 fouls drawn. Rounding out the list of top performers are Paris Lee of Panathinaikos and Dzanan Musa of Real, both of whom had a PIR of 26. Lee had career-highs of 22 points and 4 steals, along with 5 assists and 8 fouls drawn in a win, while Musa netted 24 points and had 4 assists in Real’s loss.
Individual highs: Tavares and Fall, 18 rebounds
Dywane Bacon of Panathinaikos was Round 12’s top scorer with 31 points in his team’s overtime victory against EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. Will Clyburn of Anadolu Efes Istanbul is the competition’s top scorer at 20.4 points per game. Two players, Youssoupha Fall of LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne and Walter Tavares of Real Madrid pulled down 18 rebounds in Round 12. Fall is the competition’s best rebounder, grabbing 8.1 boards per night. Pierria Henry of Baskonia was the only player to reach double digits in assists, dishing 10 in his team’s home win against Bayern. Kostas Sloukas of Olympiacos Piraeus ranks first in assists at 6.8 per game. ALBA Berlin’s Ben Lammers tied a club record with 5 steals, which is also the most of any player in this round. Thomas Walkup of Olympiacos is first overall in steals at 2.3 per game. Tavares and Freddie Gillespie of Bayern each had 3 blocks, more than anyone else in Round 12. Tavares also leads the overall standings at 2.2 blocks per game. Henry, Tavares, Fall, Mathias Lessort of Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade and Tonye Jekiri of Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul each had a double-double in this round.
