The Athletic anonymous survey crowns Mike James as Top Euro player
Maccabi’s Deni Avdija has been chosen as best Euro NBA prospect.
An anonymous survey done by US portal The Athletic in the last few month, involving 21 coaches and players, both American and foreign, who compete in professional European leagues, answered three questions about basketball across Europe: Who is the best player in European basketball? Who is the best NBA prospect? And could the continent’s best team reach the NBA playoffs?
About the best player, the winner of this category only received five of 21 votes and was CSKA’s Mike James, chased by Efes’ Shane Larkin and Barcelona’s Nikola Mirotic, both with with four votes each. Others receiving votes were Nando De Colo (Fenerbahce); Vasilije Micic (Anadolu Efes); Nick Calathes (Panathinaikos); Facundo Campazzo (Real Madrid); Sergio Rodriguez (Olimpia Milano).
About the best NBA prospect currently playing in Europe, the clear winner was Maccabi’s Deni Avdija, with a majority of 10 of the 19 votes cast. ASVEL’s Theo Maledon placed second with 6 votes, Ulm’s Killian Hayes third with 2 votes, while Real Madrid’s Usman Garuba received a single vote. Regarding the chance that the first-place Euroleague team could make it to the NBA Playoffs, by a 15-to-six vote, the verdict was no.
