SIG Strasbourg and coach Massimo Cancellieri have mutually agreed not to continue their partnership beyond the first year.

“At the end of the season, the Strasbourg SIG and Massimo Cancellieri met to take stock of the past year and the club’s sporting situation. After discussions, the coach decided, in agreement with the club, not to continue beyond the first year of his contract, thus ending their mutual collaboration.

With one year remaining on his contract, Massimo Cancellieri met with the club’s management shortly after the end of the 2023/24 season. During the meeting, the difficulties and results of the season were discussed, and the club and the coach took an objective look at the situation. As a result, Massimo Cancellieri has agreed to leave SIG Strasbourg and to terminate his contract with the club.

SIG Strasbourg would like to thank Massimo Cancellieri for his investment in the 2023/24 season, which saw the club reach the French Cup Final and the Top 16 of the Basketball Champions League before failing to qualify for the Betclic ELITE playoffs.

The whole club wishes him all the best for the rest of his career”.

Nicola Alberani: “During the off-season, we were able to position ourselves very early to offer a contract to Massimo Cancellieri. He arrived in Strasbourg in June and has been committed to his coaching role from day one, actively involved in building his staff and team. With the Basketball Champions League qualifying tournament in September, Massimo Cancellieri was able to adapt the team’s preparation to this very important schedule. The 2023/24 season was full of ups and downs, both in terms of injuries and results, although the team performed well in the BCL and the Coupe de France. At the end of the season, we met to take stock of the situation and it became clear that we both wanted to end our collaboration. I would like to thank him for his work and commitment. I wish him all the best for the rest of his career”.
