Seedings confirmed for 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments

Draw will be held on Monday 27 November at the FIBA Headquarters in Mies, Switzerland, at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball

The Road to the Olympic Games took another step to being mapped out with the announcement of the principles for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2024 Draw.


The draw will take place on Monday November 27 at 19:00 CET at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball in Mies, Switzerland.


The Great Britain national team legend and two time NBA-All-Star Luol Deng will be in attendance to perform the Draw. Current South Sudan Basketball Federation President, he was on hand in the Philippines this summer at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 as South Sudan qualified directly for the Olympic Games.




There are 4 tickets available for the Olympic Games for each of the four FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments winners. The events host nations and cities will be confirmed at the FIBA Executive Committee meeting on November 27.


The twenty-four teams who qualified are split into six pots of four teams each, based on the FIBA Men’s World Ranking, presented by Nike.


Pot 1: Spain, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia

Pot 2: Brazil, Italy, Greece, Poland

Pot 3: Puerto Rico, Montenegro, Dominican Republic, Finland

Pot 4: New Zealand, Georgia, Mexico, Lebanon

Pot 5: Croatia, Cote d’Ivoire, Angola, Philippines

Pot 6: Egypt, Bahamas, Cameroon, Bahrain


Each FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024 will host two groups of 3 teams. Pots 1,4 and 5 will feed the Group As; while pots 2,3 and 6 will feed the Group Bs. The four hosts will be allocated to the tournaments taking place in their country.


In order to preserve geographical balance across all four tournaments, the following draw principles will apply:



There can be a maximum of two European teams in each group and not more than three European teams in each tournament.
There can be a maximum of one Americas team per group.
There can be a maximum of one team from Asia and Oceania in each tournament.
There can be a maximum of one team from Africa into each tournament.
