Scandone Avellino asks Italian Federation the own-relegation in Serie B

Avellino to start from Italian third division

After 19 straight seasons in Serie A, Scandone Avellino will likely restart from Italian lower divisions.

Due to the financial problems of Sidigas, the company owned by Scandone Governor Gianandrea De Cesare, the club asked Italian Basketball Federation the own-relegation in Serie B (Italian third division), as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Avellino had already signed Jeremy Chappell, Chris Obekpa, Brandon Taylor and Kaspar Treier for next season.

With Avellino out, Serie A will have 17 teams next season.
