Kings to keep Luke Walton as head coach

The Sacramento Kings will keep Luke Walton as head coach for next season.

Per NBC Sports, According to a league source, Walton will return as coach of the Kings for a third season after finishing the 2020-21 campaign strong with a 9-7 record over the final 16 games, despite illness and injuries to most of his rotation.

The source confirmed that Walton’s relationship with general manager Monte McNair and his front office was a big reason for Walton getting another season to turn things around for a franchise that has now missed the NBA playoffs for 15 consecutive years.

Wizards sign Caleb Homesley to multi-year contract

The Washington Wizards announced the agreement reached with Caleb Homesley.
The guard signed a multi-year deal. He will not join the team immediately, but is expected to be a part of the team offseason developmental program.
Homesley averaged 9.2 points, 2.4 assist and 1.2 steals in G League for the Erie Bayhawks.

75% of NBA players have received a COVID-19 vaccine so far

The NBA has had approximately 75 percent of their players receive a COVID-19 vaccine, sources tell ESPN. The vaccination rate is significantly higher than of the general population.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver is continuing to appeal to front office executives to encourage further player participation.

Ben Wallace to be reportedly part of Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2021

Former Pistons center Ben Wallace will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2021, sources told Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated. The entire 2021 class will be announced on Sunday.

Wallace, whose No. 3 jersey is retired by the Pistons, began his career going undrafted in 1996. Wallace won a NBA title in 2004 and was a four-time All-Star.

Khyri Thomas signs multiyear contract with Rockets

The Houston Rockets announced that they have signed Khyri Thomas to a multi-year contract.
The former Crieghton guard averaged 16.4 points, 5 assist and 1.8 steals in 5 games.

Julius Randle says he wants to retire as a Knicks player

Julius Randle is undoubtedly one of the stories of the NBA season, and has a team option for next season at approx. $20M, so speculation are growing about his future.

“I love playing in New York. I want to retire as a New York Knick,” Randle said on The Victory podcast about his prospects of signing a new deal with the Knicks. Former Lakers is averaging 24.0 ppg and 10.2 rpg in a breakout season.

Marc Lore, Alex Rodriguez agree to buy Minnesota Timberwolves for $1.5B

Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez have reached agreement to purchase the Minnesota Timberwolves from Glen Taylor for $1.5 billion, reports Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The investment group recently had their 30-day exclusive negotiation window expire, which led to speculation that the team could begin to receive bids from rival bidders. Tech entrepreneur Lore and former MLB star Rodriguez are reportedly equal 50-50 partners in the purchase.

NBA considering delaying Playoffs in case of a positive COVID-19 test

The NBA has internally discussed the possibility of delaying playoff games in the instance of positive COVID-19 tests, sources tell Yahoo! Sports.

Since the January surge of positive tests in the NBA, they have had a weekly average of two. More than 70% of players had received at least one shot of a vaccine by the end of April, which is higher than the general US population (46%).

Zach LaVine to give the Bulls a slight discount?

Zach LaVine has another year of contract with Chicago Bulls but  several sources who said that might not be the case any longer, as adding key role players around him could persuade LaVine to give the Bulls a slight discount.

But there’s also the other side to this, and that’s the unknown. Could executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas look to move LaVine this summer, feeling like they need to go in another direction?

Pistons to sign coach Casey to contract extension

The Detroit Pistons are signing Dwane Casey to a contract extension.

Per ESPN, The Detroit Pistons have agreed to a contract extension with coach Dwane Casey through the 2023-24 NBA season.

Casey had two years left on his original five-year deal and will now be extended for one more season.
Through a 20-50 record this season that marks the start of a franchise rebuild, Pistons general manager Troy Weaver has been enthusiastic over Casey and his coaching staff’s development of the franchise’s young players — including rookie first-round picks Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart — and the competitive force of an undermanned roster, sources told ESPN.

Bucks waive Rodions Kurucs

The Milwaukee Bucks have requested waivers on forward Rodions Kurucs.

Kurucs, who was acquired from Houston on March 19, appeared in five games with the Bucks and averaged 3.0 points in 6.7 minutes per game.

Milwaukee’s roster is at 16 players.

Jazz’s Donovan Mitchell to miss final games of regular season

In advance of Utah’s final three games of the regular season, Donovan Mitchell was re-evaluated by the team’s medical staff on Tuesday for a sprained ankle he sustained on April 16. He continues to make progress towards a return but will be out for Utah’s final three contests.

Mitchell will not travel with the Jazz for the team’s upcoming road trip and will remain in Salt Lake City to continue treatment. He will be re-evaluated prior to the start of the NBA Playoffs.

Alperen Sengun declares for the 2021 NBA Draft

Alperen Sengun told ESPN that he will enter 2021 NBA Draft.

Per ESPN, “At the beginning of the season, I didn’t think my performance would be this high, but with every passing game I felt I could do more and more,” Sengun said via email. “I believe that there are no limits for me to get better as a basketball player.”
The 18-year old Sengun is in the midst of one of the most productive seasons in European basketball history for a teenager, averaging 19.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.3 steals in 28 minutes per game for Turkish league team Besiktas, shooting 65% from the field and 81% from the free throw line.

Celtics’ Jaylen Brown to miss remainder of season

Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics will miss the remainder of the season with a torn scapholunate ligament.

Per ESPN, Brown, who averaged a career-high 24.7 points on 48.4% shooting this season for Boston, was diagnosed with the injury over the weekend and is expected to have surgery this week.
The Celtics did not provide a timetable for Brown’s return, saying that they would provide additional updates when appropriate.

Divisione One Top Scorer Max Abmas declares for the NBA Draft

Oral Roberts star Max Abmas has announced that he’s declaring for the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility.

Abmas ended his sophomore year with 24.6 points per game (No.1 in Division One), shooting 52% from two points, 43% from beyond the arc and 89% from the foul line.
He’s the No.21 prospect in ESPN’s Top 100.

Elijah Bryant has a potential opportunity with an NBA club and Maccabi Tel Aviv BC is allowing him to go and pursue his dream and that opportunity.
