Rockets’ Ime Udoka says he is not considering moving Jalen Green to bench role
Despite Green’s difficulties, Udoka stated that’s not something he’s thinking about.
Following his team’s defeat against the Indiana Pacers, Ime Udoka, the head coach of the Houston Rockets, was questioned about if he had thought of benching Jalen Green. Despite Green’s difficulties, Udoka stated that’s not something he’s thinking about.
“Obviously, with [Green] playing that way, if he was playing the other way we obviously wouldn’t struggle as much offensively and have to lean on other guys as much or play other guys minutes,” Udoka said postgame. “We’ll continue to keep him confident, continue to [help] him improve in certain areas, and he’ll take a jump eventually.”
Green did not change from his starting position in the Rockets’ back-to-back matchup with the Phoenix Suns. In that home game, Houston was defeated despite Green’s 23 points (8 of 20 shooting).
The young guard from Houston is in the middle of a second season in which his play has become less efficient. Green’s percentages on both the field (39.4%) and three-pointers (33.1%) are career lows. Additionally, because the Rockets have upgraded their lineup around him, he is getting less attempts and touches.
