Philadelphia 76ers fined $100K for statements on Joel Embiid’s health
The NBA has fined the Philadelphia 76ers $100,000 due to public statements regarding the health status of All-NBA center Joel Embiid
The NBA has fined the Philadelphia 76ers $100,000 due to public statements regarding the health status of All-NBA center Joel Embiid.
The league’s investigation found that while the Sixers did not violate the player participation policy concerning Embiid’s missed games, they did breach NBA rules with comments that misrepresented his knee issues.
The fine was based on statements from president of basketball operations Daryl Morey and coach Nick Nurse, which were deemed "inconsistent with Joel Embiid’s health status and in violation of NBA rules." Embiid, who has a left knee condition, has yet to play this season, along with Paul George, sidelined by a bone bruise.
Both players participated in portions of practice, but the Sixers ruled them out for Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Pistons.
