The second period, which ended 9-24 in favor of Schroder and his teammates, was decisive. The German team was led by Schroder and Franz Wagner, author of perhaps the greatest dunk of the tournament. France, who also trailed by more than 20 points, made a desperate comeback in the fourth period led by Isaia Cordinier, but never really threatened their opponents. Germany wins its group and is seeded the same as the United States, while France has to settle for second place in Group B.
Wembanyama’s 14 points and 12 rebounds and Cordinier and Fournier’s 10 points each were not enough for France.
