Panathinaikos BC announces the acquisition of Dimitris Moraitis for the next three years.
Dimitris Moraitis, born on February 3, 1999, in Athens, stands at 1.94m and plays as a point guard.
He started playing basketball in the Panionios development squads, before beginning his professional career with the team from Nea Smyrni. He signed his first professional contract in 2014, and the following season he transferred to AEK. He stayed there until 2019 when he “moved” to Rhodes on loan to Kolossos. In 20 games, he averaged 4.8 points and 2.2 assists per game.
In the 2020-2021 season, he returned to AEK, and in 16 championship games, he averaged 3.8 points and 1.9 assists, while in the BCL he had an average of 17.9 minutes, with 5.9 points, 2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. With AEK, he has won a Greek Cup (2018), a BCL title (2018), and an Intercontinental Cup (2019).
In 2021, he signed a two-year cooperation contract with Peristeri. In the 2021-2022 season, he averaged 9.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.2 steals in 19 games of the Greek championship.
In the 2022-2023 season, Moraitis averaged 7.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 32 games with Peristeri.
From a very young age, Dimitris Moraitis served the national team ranks, starting with the U16, then he played for the U18 and U20. In February 2021, he was called up to the men’s national team for the first time to participate in the EuroBasket 2022 qualifiers. In February 2022, he played in 2 games for the 2023 World Cup qualifiers. He was also shortlisted for the EuroBasket 2022, but did not make the final selection. With the men’s national team, Moraitis has played 7 games with 54 points (average: 7.71).
