Basketball Nymburk will be strengthened by Gorjok Gak for the new season
Basketball Nymburk will be strengthened by Gorjok Gak for the new season. The 24-year-old big man with 211 centimeters will become the first Australian player in Nymburks history. It will be his first engagement in Europe when he graduated from California Baptist University in the spring, having previously played at the University of Florida. In Nymburk, he signed a one+one-year contract.
“After researching the market and the possibilities we have, we decided to bring Gorjok Gak, who is very well athletic and has very long arms. It could be a very good rim protector and should fit well into our system. Last season in NCAA he had great numbers and there is a lot of room for improvement and it can be an even better player than he is now, “said Nymburk coach Aleksander Sekulič. “Now the point is to adapt quickly to the European style of play so that he can reach his full potential,” he added.
A native of Sydney, he grew up in basketball in America when he attended high school at Victory Rock Prep in Florida, where he also attended the University of Florida in Gainesville. Here, however, due to injury, he did not make much of an impact when he first fought with the knee and then with the shoulder.
However, he avoided the problems and after four years transferred to the University of California Baptist for the last year, where he became one of the main stars of the team with which he advanced to the playoffs of the Western Athletic NCAA conference. He averaged 13.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.7 blocks per game.
Gak’s parents come from Sudan, but during the Civil War they fled via Egypt to Australia, and in 1996 Gorjok was born, who has five siblings. Basketball was a favorite activity in his family. His uncle Longar Longar even have one NBA start for Oklahoma City. Gorjok played for the Australian national team at the 2017 Universiade. His younger brother Akoldah now represented Australia at the Under-19 World Championships. Another brother, Deng Gak, also plays at the NCAA
