Novasports celebrates new deal, new season of EuroLeague broadcasts

Long-time rights holder for Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup games in Greece and Cyprus, Novasports, presented the 2019-20 season in Athens on Friday.

Long-time rights holder for Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup games in Greece and Cyprus, Novasports, presented the 2019-20 season in Athens on Friday. Forthnet, the parent company of both NOVA Greece and NOVA Cyprus, signed a three-year contract extension in July to continue airing Europe’s premier basketball competitions. With the deal, the cooperation between EuroLeague Basketball and Novasports will reach 19 years.

Euroleague Basketball President and CEO Jordi Bertomeu flew to the Greek capital for the official presentation, where he was joined by Forthnet’s CEO and Vice Chairman on the Board of Directors, Panos Papadopoulos, and PayTv Executive Director, Katerina Kaskanioti, and Enric Rojas, the Senior Vice President and Head of Sales EMEA at IMG Media. Olympiacos Piraeus forward Kostas Papanikolaou and Panathinaikos OPAP Athens big man Dinos Mitoglou also joined in the festivities.

“This will be our 20th season. Real Madrid and Olympiacos played the first game in the EuroLeague and for 15 of the last 19 seasons, NOVA has been our partner,” Bertomeu said. “NOVA has played a very important role in our growth, as they have shown a permanent commitment to delivering quality to our fans and we are grateful for all of NOVA’s efforts in the last 15 years and anticipate my gratitude for what’s to come.”

The 2019-20 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season will be the biggest ever with 18 teams from 10 countries and a minimum of 322 games guaranteed to be played. It also figures to be one of the most exciting on record with many teams working hard to build rosters that are deeper and stronger than ever, including the local Greens and Reds. The Greek market also has a team in the EuroCup, Promitheas Patras, as well as several star players on other contending teams, including Kostas Sloukas at Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, Stratos Perperoglou at Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade, Nikos Zisis at Joventut Badalona and Vangelis Mantzaris and Kostas Kaimakoglou at UNICS Kazan.

“I am very happy that the EuroLeague and the EuroCup will continue to be delivered to the fans on NOVA for the next four years,” Papadopoulos said. “It will be a great sports season at NOVA and every night and every game will be a great show. I hope you enjoy it.”

“Over the last 15 years working together, we have created a strong relationship with EuroLeague Basketball and we are much more than only partners. And now we are going to blow the EuroLeague’s 20th-anniversary candle together! The team at NOVA is the best basketball team we could have to deliver the EuroLeague to the fans,” Kaskanioti said. “We have lived many glorious moments and we are ready to live many more together, starting on October 3, throughout all the 300-plus games in the season and all the ancillary content we will produce with our great team at NOVA! We also want to highlight that we will also be showing the EuroCup, which will complete our basketball offering with games every night and with very special attention to Promitheas Patras, our Greek representative.”

“This cooperation between EuroLeague Basketball and NOVA has witnessed all the glorious moments in EuroLeague history. They are a super partner,” Papanikolaou said. “This year we have more games and more teams; it is going to be a highly-competitive and beautiful season. We are all looking forward to the start of the games. Our fans have lots of expectations from us and we will do our best for them. I wish a great season to everyone!”

“We are very happy about this partnership,” Mitoglou added. “We are working very hard to present great games for our fans. I hope all the teams have the best of luck this season.”
