The New Zealand Breakers have parted ways with import Freddie Gillespie, releasing the centre from the remainder of his NBL25 contract.
"Freddie approached us and requested a release. While bittersweet, it was an opportunity that Freddie wanted to pursue and we support him. We look forward to watching his success in the future," Breakers CEO Lisa Edser said.
"We thank Freddie for his contributions to the club on and off the court and wish him the best with his new team."
Gillespie extended his thanks to the Breakers for the opportunity.
"I’ve built great and lasting relationships with my teammates, the Breakers staff, and our incredible fans.
"I’m truly proud of everything we’ve accomplished together this season. As I look ahead, I’m excited to begin the next chapter of my journey."
Gillespie averaged 6.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks a game during nine appearances for New Zealand.
The Breakers will fill their vacant roster spot ahead of their next game, on November 28.
Gillespie has been previously linked with Italian team, Olimpia Milan, according to reports internationally, while former NBA big Tacko Fall looms as a potential replacement, having spent time with the club over the past month.
