De Colo, 34, also holds the distinction as the only player ever to be season MVP, Final Four MVP and Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy winner in the same season, which he did in 2016.

The title of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague’s most prolific all-around player now has a new owner after Nando De Colo of Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul broke the record for the highest career performance index rating on Thursday.

De Colo posted a PIR of 14 in Fenerbahce’s 96-86 home win over AS Monaco for a career total of 4,184. He surpassed the recently-retired Vassilis Spanoulis with an assist on the final play of the game to take over first place in the all-time rankings. Spanoulis had 4,183 in his illustrious career.

Previous holders of the honor were Marcus Brown, with 2,757, and his successor, Juan Carlos Navarro, with 3,890. Performance index rating is a formula that adds all of a player’s positive statistics – such as shots made, rebounds and assists – and subtracts negative ones – like missed shots, turnovers and fouls committed – to arrive at a rating that rewards volume, efficiency and versatility.

De Colo’s climb to the top of the all-time PIR standings is all the more remarkable because he needed just 236 games to do it. By contrast, nine other players have surpassed 3,500 in career PIR, but all have played at least 30 more games. Indeed, the player with the next-fewest games on the list is De Colo’s teammate Jan Vesely, with 3,626 in 266 games to rank ninth overall.

De Colo is a two-time EuroLeague champion, both times with his previous team, CSKA Moscow, who was named to the 2010-20 EuroLeague All-Decade Team. He has been on the All-EuroLeague Team in six consecutive seasons between 2014-15 and 2020-21. (No All-EuroLeague team was named in the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season.)

De Colo, 34, also holds the distinction as the only player ever to be season MVP, Final Four MVP and Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy winner in the same season, which he did in 2016.
