AS Monaco signed swingman J.J. O’Brien for the coming season, the club announced Monday. O’Brien (2.00 meters, 27 years old) played for Astana in the VTB United League last season and averaged 15.2 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game last season. He led the team in scoring and performance index rating (18.0), the latter of which was eighth in the league. O’Brien spent most of the first three seasons of his professional career in the G-League – a season each with Idaho, Salt Lake City and Agua Caliente. He also played briefly for Utah in the NBA. At Monaco, he will be reunited with his former Astana teammate Anthony Clemmons.
“J.J. O’Brien is a young full-fledged player with great potential, who will be able to continue his progress with us,” Coach Sasa Obradovic said. “He reads the game well and can score or create for his teammates. In Astana, he played with Anthony Clemmons; they get along very well and on the floor they have good teamwork.”
