Milan Tomic, assistant coach to Ettore Messina at Olimpia Milano, will return to Belgrade as a former coach tonight for the game against Red Star. Here are his words to Sportklub.
ON RED STAR
“Zvezda is emotion, so we’re definitely expecting a difficult game to play. It’s not easy to return to the same court in front of the same audience. With Zvezda, we won three titles and that period was beautiful. I think we played great modern basketball. As everyone said at the end of the season, when we beat Budućnost by 45 points, it was one of the biggest and most convincing victories. I think that has never happened in history. It’s not just that game. I think we played well throughout that season. There were highs and lows, as happens with all teams every year. In the end, we won three titles and I think that season was a success.”
ON THE RED STAR TEAM
“There have been many changes. As for the Zvezda team, they are all Euroleague players with a lot of experience and have been playing in the Euroleague for a long time. After the change of coach, it’s definitely necessary to take time to get used to Sfairopoulos. Coaches are different, so are Duško Ivanović and Ioannis Sfairopoulos. The players need to get used to his style of play. I think Zvezda will find a way to play well and qualify among the top eight.”
ON MILOS TEODOSIC
“I’ve known Miloš for a long time and we have a good relationship. We talk often. Miloš is… He’s the magic of basketball. When Miloš arrived at Olympiacos, it was immediately clear that he was that kind of player. Then, at 21 or 22 years old, he played in the same way. He had the same reading of the pick and roll and those passes. He showed everything already then, and he continued in the NBA, where everyone knows what he did and how everyone watched his magic on the court.”
ON NIKOLA MIROTIC
“Nikola has been playing phenomenally since the start of the season. It’s the first time I’ve worked with him, the first time we’ve been on the same team. There’s no need to talk much about his basketball side. All of Europe and the NBA know what kind of player he is. But, Nikola is a phenomenal person. We met in August and I must say he is one of the few true men,” concluded Tomić in the interview for Sport Klub.
