Legabasket Serie A to decide the future of the season at latest on April 10
Italian Serie A season likely to be canceled
Legabasket Serie A will decide at least on April 10 whether to resume the season or cancel it, a source told Sportando.
A restart is highly unlikely considering the coronavirus outbreak in Italy with more than 100.000 infected and 10.000 deaths.
The only formula “available” now to finish the season is to re-start on May 16 with two weeks of practices and resume the season from May 31 with a 16-team playoff format and a Final Eight to be played between June 19 and June 22.
But team practices are forbidden in Italy at least till the end of April, almost all the Americans have returned home and it will be impossible to play with spectators even late in June.
99% chances the season will be canceled in agreement with Italian Basketball Federation.
Virtus Bologna tried to propose to resume the season from June to September with a playoff format tournament and new rosters but the idea was rejected by other teams.
