The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Phoenix Suns and Kevin Durant on Sunday night in Palm Springs, but history was made when LeBron James and his son, Bronny, shared the court for the first time in NBA history. At the 12:00 mark of the second quarter, the father-son duo became the first ever to play together in an NBA game.

LeBron, 39, is entering his 22nd NBA season and seventh with the Lakers. Bronny, 20, was the Lakers’ second-round pick in the 2024 draft after one year at USC. In his preseason debut against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Bronny scored 2 points on 1-of-6 shooting in 16 minutes. On Sunday night, LeBron led the Lakers with 19 points in 16 minutes, while Bronny went scoreless in 13 minutes.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick praised Bronny’s defensive potential: “He can do some unique things defensively at his size, and I think he can become a disruptive defender. Offensively, he’s still finding his role. It’s our job to build him up.” Despite struggles on offense, Redick remains optimistic: “He’s working hard, and I believe we’ll see improvements throughout the season.”

LeBron James expressed his emotions: “Playing with my son is a dream come true. It’s just the beginning for him, and I know he has great potential.” Bronny added: “It’s an honor to share the court with my dad, but I know I need to improve. This is just the start of the journey.”

With the G-League season starting on October 28, Bronny is expected to remain on the Lakers’ active roster for now, though his minutes may be limited early in the season.
