Jordan Hawkins To Be In Pelicans Regular Season Rotation

Jordan Hawkins, a sophomore guard for the New Orleans Pelicans, could enter coach Willie Green’s rotation on a regular basis.

New Orleans Pelicans guard Jordan Hawkins had an outstanding preseason. According to Pelicans head coach Willie Green, Hawkins is in contention for a starting spot. "Absolutely," was Green’s response when asked if the guard, in his second year in the NBA, was a rotation player.

Hawkins had an up-and-down rookie season. He averaged 7.8 points in 67 games, but shot only 38.2 percent from the field. Hawkins has mostly been a three-point specialist, as more than 65 percent of his shots have come from behind the arc.

This preseason, the 6-foot-2 guard has shown a wider game. Hawkins averaged 16.3 points on 50 percent shooting, on a wide variety of attempts. The Pelicans are counting on Hawkins to replace Trey Murphy III, who is expected to be limited for the start of the season due to a hamstring injury.
