Isaac Bonga officially leaves Bayern

World champion Isaac Bonga is leaving FC Bayern Basketball after two years and transferring abroad within the EuroLeague

This farewell is not easy: World champion Isaac Bonga is leaving FC Bayern Basketball after two years and transferring abroad within the EuroLeague. The 24-year-old all-rounder played a significant role in Munich’s double victory in 2024 and also celebrated the cup win with FCBB the previous year. Bonga had joined Bayern in the summer of 2022 after four years in the NBA and quickly became a fan favorite at BMW Park.

“I want to thank everyone in the Bayern organization. I felt very comfortable and had a lot of fun,” Bonga said on Wednesday. “I now have a new challenge, but we will definitely stay in touch: Always forward!

Izzy Bonga played in all 44 mandatory games across the two national competitions during the double-winning season. His versatility shone, especially in the playoff finals, when he stepped up to organize the playmaking for many minutes due to injuries to point guards Francisco and Weiler-Babb. In the quarter-finals against Ludwigsburg (3:1), his fighting spirit was evident with an average of 7.8 rebounds.

FCBB CEO Marko Pesic said: “It is very unfortunate that we are losing a personality like Izzy, as he has left his mark on us and was a crucial part of our championship team, particularly visible in the playoffs. He has now chosen a new challenge, which we naturally accept and respect, and we wish him all the best. Izzy should know that he will always be part of our basketball family in Munich. He is an outstanding guy.”

Throughout the BBL season, Bonga averaged 8.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, improving his three-point shooting percentage to 45% this season. In the EuroLeague, the 2.03-meter guard played 61 games over two years, averaging 6.1 points and four rebounds.

FC Bayern Basketball wishes Izzy Bonga much success on his future path and a good sense of style when choosing his hair color.
