According to Rolandas Skaisgirys -One of the leaders of the Lithuanian 3×3 Association-, basketball is no longer on the FIBA Executive Plans.
Talking with the BasketNews.lt podcast, Skaisgirys revealed that ‘There are rumors -From people who hold high positions in European and world basketball- that the 2028 Olympics will not see basketball anymore, and will be replaced by the 3×3″
The first step of this process was in 2017, when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) formally included 3×3 basketball in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics program.
Skaisgirys added: “Probably for many reasons, basketball will disappear from the Olympics and that’s why a lot of work and investment has been made lately to popularize the 3×3”.
