Gray, Knight propel Monaco to first historic Eurocup trophy
Monaco beats UNICS in Kazan in Game 2, conquering the 2021 Eurocup Final
AS Monaco becomes the first ever Jeep Elite team to win the Eurocup after downing UNICS in Kazan 86-83 in Game 2. A stunning underdog triumph for a team who conquers its first ever continental trophy, after losing twice the Basketball Champions League final in 2017 and 2018. It was a thrilling matchup in Russia, with Monaco escaping away in the 4th with a 6-point lead with 3′ left to play. UNICS, however, was able to come back behind Jamar Smith, leading 83-81 with 15 seconds to play. A 3-point play by O’Brien with 10″ to play allowed Monaco to regain the lead after Marcus Knight sealing the deal with a pair of free throws.
Rob Gray led Monaco with 25 points, with Knight adding a stellar 14 points, 12 rebounds double-double. O’Brien had 16 for the visitors, while John Brown III was the best for UNICS with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
