This is what FEB president Jorge Garbajosa said.
“It’s a honor and privilege to have been elected by a high percentage to the FIBA Europe Board.
The relations with new secretary General Andreas Zagklis is magnificent and extraordinary and proof of this is that his first official visit was to our house and we work together in order to defend the national leagues and national teams.
Our goal is to keep on working, talking, debating and negotiating for the good of basketball and this is something that shall continue.
Regarding the conflict with olympic qualifying tournament dates, FIBA has taken the first step for the benefit of all scheduling later the start of training camps of national teams, in order to defend the national leagues and the national teams.
There is room for everybody. This is something that not only affects Spain, but all the national teams with players in the Spanish league.
FIBA and ACB have shown good will to negotiate but in order to sit down and negotiate there has to be an attitude of wanting to negotiate, if not, is impossible. The international Schedule have been approved unanimously way back by all the structures of basketball.
There is room for everybody but I don’t like for example that the EuroLeague Final Four will take place during the playoffs of the national leagues. I like to work together for the good of basketball.
Euroleague is a competition that without asking has grown number of designated teams with no criteria and the Schedule has to be more coordinated and EuroLeague can’t take decisions by its own in its own benefit.
The ACB has shown a positive attitude to negotiate, FIBA also has made that effort and fans understand who is doing what. There has to be will to cooperate and work together for the benefit of players, if not you squeeze players. Take for example what Rudy said of the 3rd and 4th spot place in Final Four”.
