Gallinari on his ball-handling, playmaking: “It’s the way they teach basketball in Europe”

The Italian forward talked about how he developed his guard skills

Danilo Gallinari is having a career season with the LA Clippers. He is averaging 19.6 points per game on 46% from 3-point range, and most importantly, he’s been a consistent mismatch for other big men thanks to his combination of ball-handling, playmaking and size at 6-foot-10.

“That’s the way they teach us basketball in Europe,” Gallinari said about how he developed his guard skills. “It doesn’t matter the size. You find big men dribbling [up] the court for hours in Europe. You can see that in all the European big men [in the NBA], starting with Nikola Jokic, who I played with. Most of the big men are like that. But I grew up playing point guard; I’ve never been a big. Even if I was the tallest one, I’ve always played point.”
