FIBA’s Zagklis on Euroleague: “November window a missed opportunity for showing good faith”
Zagklis has addressed several topics in a virtual press conference
FIBA Secretary General, Andreas Zagklis, has addressed several topics in a virtual press conference with global media, with several questions around the relationship with Euroleague
“Our relationship is improving because we’re talking more, and there is room for improvement. The flexibility emerged as a reponse to COVID-19 is something that can be helpful because talking to each other is needed. I’m optimistic, we want to talk to people who want to find a solution as we do. It’s not just a scheduling issue, we think clubs should have a bigger slice of the pie and earn more. Last window in november was a missed opportunity to show good faith from Euroleague, it’s unacceptable to not welcome clubs demand to postpone games and avoid direct clashes with NT games, we’ve seen two Derbies (France and Turkey) clashing with their respective NT games on the same day, clubs need more respect. We’ve seen 30 Euroleague players made available for their NT but it’s a figure far from the Federations demands. There is room for flexibilty and there are different models to find a solution suitable for all parts involved. We’re at the table with a proactive approach and a open-mind”, Zagklis said.
