EuroLeague will welcome Dubai into its world this week

After several twists and turns, Dubai’s membership in the EuroLeague ecosystem is expected to be officially announced on Wednesday. Decisions will be made at the club/shareholder meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday, but it is virtually certain that the project has already obtained the necessary majority, despite objections from two clubs related to geopolitical concerns and different visions of the project. The majority support, together with the backing of EuroLeague CEO Paulius Motiejunas and president Dejan Bodiroga, means that Dubai’s membership now seems a formality. Dubai will play in the BKT EuroCup next season, proving on the court that it deserves the highest level and adopting a professional approach both on and off the court. Dubai’s interest has also prompted Abu Dhabi to propose €75 million to host the next three Final Fours, highlighting the region’s interest in basketball beyond the NBA.
